The Hurstpierpoint
Singers formed in 1950 and its members have provided a warm welcome
to very many people who enjoy singing ever since.
We
perform two concerts each year. In December we have a concert of carols
and seasonal music; in the spring we have a major concert with orchestra
and professional soloists either at Holy Trinity Church, Hurstpierpoint or in St Peter's Church, Henfield. In
recent years we have performed works by Bach, Elgar, Fauré, Haydn,
Mozart and Schubert as well as opera choruses and other light music.
We meet on Monday evenings from September to Easter at the Methodist Church in Cuckfield Road,
Hurstpierpoint at 7.45pm. Find
Us. Our next concert will be our spring concert in March when we will be singing Handel's Passion of Christ. You are very welcome to join us.
Besides our regular concerts at Christmas and in the Spring we are also
invited each summer to join with other choirs led by Stephen Hope, from
Horsham, Northwood and Basildon, to sing as the Sussex Festival Choir.
This choir performs a major choral work in Arundel Cathedral in July,
a great opportunity for us all to sing in a massed choir in an inspiring
setting. The Hurstpierpoint Singers also provide the backbone to a very
successful “come and sing from scratch” choir at the annual
Hurstpierpoint Festival in September each year.
There is also the possibility to sing abroad with members of these choirs.
Recent trips have been to Bruges, Venice and Barcelona and a visit to Florence
is planned for 2011.
New members are always welcome. If you enjoy choral singing do come
and join us; no audition is necessary. Just come along to one of our Monday
rehearsals
or if you would rather contact us first for more information you can
do so either by phone:
